Dave Steinman

About: David Steinman

David has broad experience in business management and strategy consulting, with particular expertise in healthcare, human resources, business process outsourcing, and the infrastructure supporting those activities.

David has held several key executive positions in publicly owned companies, most recently as Senior Vice President, Strategic Initiatives, for Ceridian Corporation. In that role David had primary responsibility for developing new sources of revenue in the HR and Benefits business process outsourcing markets, with emphasis on services to reduce client costs in providing employee benefits.

Prior to joining Ceridian, David held the position of Vice President in IBM's Healthcare Strategic Outsourcing organization within IBM Global Services. He was responsible for leading the team managing IBM's largest healthcare payor client relationship. He had primary responsibility for sales, revenue and profit of all aspects of this relationship, including data center outsourcing, consulting, hardware, software, and other technology services. During his tenure at IBM from November 2000 to April 2004, David successfully reversed a deteriorating client relationship, grew the account to over $120M in revenue and achieved record levels of profitability. During this period, he also managed IBM's commercial human resources technology group. His team reversed 8 years of unprofitable operations in HR Outsourcing, and developed the technology platform now used in all IBM Business Process Outsourcing initiatives.

Along with his management and sales experience, David has extensive experience in the healthcare and consulting industries with particular focus on strategic, operational, and human resource issues. Immediately prior to joining IBM, David worked as an independent healthcare management consultant. Before that, he was a Senior Partner and Director of Consulting Operations for CSC Healthcare. During his seven years with CSC and its predecessor, APM Management Consultants, David worked on a variety of engagements for hospital, health systems and physician group clients. These projects included a wide variety of issues in areas including organization and business unit strategies, network development and management, managed care contracting, and ambulatory network operations. He led the Physician-Hospital Integration practice, managing several large client relationships with Integrated Delivery Systems. David also chaired several key partnership committees, including Human Resources and Staffing. He also served on the Management, Operating, Marketing, Compensation and Partner Compensation Committees.

Prior to joining APM, David was a consultant and engagement manager at McKinsey & Company. During his five years at McKinsey, he devoted much of his time to serving clients in the professional services fields, including healthcare providers and a large international law firm. David also served as project manager of one of McKinsey's largest pro bono projects ever: an engagement to restructure the Ohio Bureau of Worker's Compensation at the behest of then Governor George Voinovich.

Before joining McKinsey, David was a practicing attorney with expertise in Mental Health law and Labor law. Before entering private practice, David served two years overseeing the operations of psychiatric inpatient services in public and private hospitals for the New York State Office of Court Administration. David graduated first in his MBA class at Cornell University (1987), received his JD from Hofstra University (1980), and his BA in Psychology from the University of New Mexico (1975).
